SHEEP

The farms run a 400 strong flock of sheep, which includes 350 breeding ewes.  We buy in ewe lambs as breeding replacements.  The herd tends to be a mixture of Welsh half-breds and Welsh mules and these are put to pedigree Texel tups.

The ewes generally lamb mid-march onwards.  Once the ewes have lambed the lambs are naturally reared off grass and are not intensively fed.

We have found with this combination of breeding we get a lamb weight towards 19kg with a consistent grading of R or better.
