The
Hen Dy (‘old house’ in Welsh) is the oldest surviving house
on the estate. It faces south overlooking the walled
gardens with views to the parkland and woodland walk, and
beside the house, a Baroque garden. The house used to be the Gardeners’ Bothy, Brew House and
Laundry for the Estate and has a bell tower which was used
to announce mealtimes &c. The Hen Dy is
traditional Welsh stone-built house with a slate roof.

"The
gardens and walks so delightful.
The
Hen Dy has been a beautiful place for our rare family
gathering. Thank you."

The Hen Dy has central heating + an open fire for
those chilly evenings. The Sitting Room is
furnished with sofas and armchairs, a TV
(with digital connection), CD and DVD player, and
lots of books and games. It overlooks the West
Garden and what will be the Baroque Garden when we
have completed it.

Upstairs
there is a wide airy landing full of light leading to four
bedrooms – The Master Bedroom has a double bed (it
can be split into twin beds), an en-suite bathroom with an
airing cupboard. The
Dressing Room (now a double bedroom) with its own hand
basin, leads off this bathroom. The second bathroom is
between The Round Room (so called because of its
round window) which is a single bedroom, and The East
Room, a twin-bedded room.
All the double bedrooms overlook the garden and have
fitted wardrobes.
"Thank you for this week on wonderful Llyn Peninsula. Your
garden is truly beautiful and the Hen Dy very well appointed
with a love of details which we much appreciated (not to
speak of the fresh flowers and bottle of wine on our
arrival!)"

Hen Dy guests are welcome to wander through the West Garden
and the Woodland Walk at their leisure. There is a small
simple garden attached to the Hen Dy, with garden
furniture. Beside the house what was the
eighteenth-century Drying Green and then a Swimming Pool
garden, is now a Baroque Garden with a reflecting pool,
topiary and box hedges and soon it will be complete with an
Orangery and Gazebo.
"Fantastic to come to holiday house that has been
loved over the years – often they feel orphaned and
uncared for; the Hen Dy is quite the opposite. And
an unexpected delight to be on top of the garden, so
full of treasures."

steep drops down into the
Walled
Garden.
Please note that the Hen Dy is a non-smoking house.
We let Friday - Friday.
Hen
Dy is listed on Alastair Sawday's Special Escapes.
